Fantastic article in The Church Times on Dr Lorna Gold who takes over as FaithInvest CEO today. In the article Lorna talks about what motivates her – including her experiences running campaigns involving the Irish Bishops’ Conference and Church of Ireland in divestment 'at a time when nobody was talking about it'.
'It was then I realised the power of faith as an ethical framework for shifting not just individual decisions, but the whole financial system'
Lorna shares some of the life experiences that have shaped her, including the death of her father when she was just six years old, followed by a devastating house fire: 'I learnt very early in life what really matters.'
She credits her mother's 'deep faith in a loving God, despite everything' for laying the foundations for her own beliefs and values, which took her from studying a PhD on the links between Christian theology and alternative economic paradigms, to working for Trocaire, the Irish Catholic development agency for 20 years, and to being a founder member of the Laudato Si' Movement (formerly the Global Catholic Climate Movement), of which she remains Chair.
She is still motivated by her deep belief in the 'radical collaboration' of faith communities and their ability to 'upturn the tables, as Jesus did in the temple' to bring about the changes needed to tackle the existential threats of the climate and environmental crises.
Lorna joined FaithInvest in 2020 and is currently our Director of Movement Building. She takes over from Martin Palmer as CEO on Monday. Martin remains as Founding President of FaithInvest.
